Aston, PA, May 18, 2010 – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) announced the recipients of the Overall, Men’s and Women’s President’s Cup awards. Cabrini College captured the overall cup for the fourth year in row. The Cavaliers took home conference championships in Field Hockey, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Men’s Lacrosse and Women’s Lacrosse.
Overall, Cabrini achieved 82.1 percent of its potential President’s Cup points, besting the nearest competitor by more than five percentage points. Rounding out the top three in the overall standings are Gwynedd-Mercy College with 75.6 percent and Neumann University with 69.0 percent of their respective points.
In the race for the Women’s Cup, the Cavaliers led the pack early by winning three of the five fall championships in Field Hockey, Soccer and Volleyball. Cabrini finished strong in the spring by picking up the Lacrosse championship and finishing as the runner-up in Softball. Cabrini totaled 85.4 percent of their total possible points in women’s sports, finishing over ten points ahead of Gwynedd-Mercy College. The Griffins took second place with 73.5 percent of their total possible points with championships in Tennis and Cross Country. Runner-up finishes in Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Soccer secured the three spot for Marywood University with 72.5 percent of their total possible points.
In the Men’s Cup competition, Gwynedd-Mercy College edged out Cabrini College with 78.3 percent of their possible points. The Griffins captured the conference title in Cross Country while picking up the runner-up plaque in Baseball and Men’s Lacrosse. Championship titles in Men’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball and Men’s Lacrosse propelled the Cavaliers to a second-place finish with 77.7 percent of their possible points. Keystone College rounded out the top three with 68.8 percent of their possible points winning championships in Golf and Baseball.
The President’s Cup is awarded annually the Men’s, Women’s and Overall athletics programs with the highest competitive percentage rating, based on championship finish and regular season play. Institutional scores are calculated using a graduated point system, with each participating institution earning a pro-rated share based on conference finish. The competitive percentage rating is determined by dividing the total number of points an institution earned by the total possible points.
