Centenary's Cara Montferrat Named All-American

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (May 20, 2010) – Freshman Cara Montferrat (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) was named 2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Third Team All-American, the organization announced at its annual banquet on Thursday. Montferrat received the honor after receiving First Team All-Region accolades on Monday. She is the only Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) softball player to be named All-American.

Montferrat was named the CSAC Rookie of the Year and earned First Team All-CSAC accolades. She earned three CSAC weekly awards, including two CSAC Player of the Week honors, and batted .417 (55-for-132) with 43 runs, 15 doubles, five triples, 12 home runs and 56 RBI. She slugged.879, walked 29 times and recorded an on-base percentage of .515. She also was stellar defensively, with 342 putouts, 15 assists, five errors and a .986 fielding percentage.

In the latest national statistical rankings, the freshman is eighth in home runs, ninth in slugging percentage, 19th in RBI per game, 25th in home runs per game, 27th in walks, tied for 46th in triples, 51st in on-base percentage and 84th in runs per game. She leads CSAC in slugging percentage, RBI, home runs and total bases and is among top-five in the conference in on-base percentage, runs, hits, doubles, triples, walks and total plate appearances.

Centenary finished the season 30-14, falling in the opening round of the ECAC South Tournament. The team set program records for wins, regular-season wins and conference victories (18) and returns everyone next season.
