CSAC Announces 2010 Softball Regular Season Awards

Aston, Pa, May 4, 2010 – The Colonial States Athletic Conference announced the recipients of the Player, Rookie, and Coach of the year, First, Second, and Honorable Mention All-Conference teams and individual sportsmanship awards in the sport of softball.

Centenary College’s Cara Montferrat (Fr., Catcher, Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) was named The 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. Montferrat as a freshman started in all 40 games behind the plate for the Cyclones. She ended her rookie season with the second highest batting average on the team with a .424. During 118 at bats Montferrat collected 50 hits, 13 doubles, and four triples. She also led the team with a .527 on-base percentage. The freshman lead the conference in slugging percentage (.907), runs batted in (55), home runs, (12) and total bases (107). In the field she only committed 4 errors and a team high of 313 put-outs in 40 games giving her an impressive .988 fielding percentage behind the plate.

Neumann University’s Jennifer Goslin (Sr., First-basemen, Coatesville, PA/Coatesville)was named The 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Goslin finished her year with 103 at bats, 18 runs, 53 hits, and four homeruns. Goslin lead the conference in on-base percentage (.624), batting average (.515), and doubles (17). The first-basemen collected 205 put-outs, 16 assists, and only 2 errors in 38 games giving her a .991 fielding percentage.

Baptist Bible College’s Bill Higley was named the 2010 Colonial States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Higley started his coaching career at Baptist Bible in 2001 and has taken the program to a very competitive level amongst conference and non-conference schools. This year the team earned the 6^th seed in the CSAC Championships. Higley and his team ended the season with a 13-9 conference record and a 16-20 overall record on the season.
