Aston, Pa.- Marywood University's Women's Soccer team has been selected as the pre-season favorite in The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) coaches' poll. The 2009 CSAC conference runner-ups received 5 of the possible 11 first place votes to earn 114 points. Close behind with four first place votes is 2009 conference title holders, Cabrini College, who earned 108 points for a second place prediction. The Cavaliers earned the conference title by defeating the Pacers in a 1-0 victory at the 2009 CSAC Championships.
"Being chosen as the pre-season favorite is certainly a high honor but we know we have a lot of work to do to capture the championship at the season's end, and that any team, as proven last year, has a chance to win once post season rolls around," Pacers' Head Coach Andrew Smith said. "The conference is getting more and more competitive from top to bottom each year which is a great sign of growth for the CSAC. When any of the eleven teams can compete it will just make our conference more respectable in the region."
Centenary College earned two first place votes to give them a close third place holding with 100 points while Gwynedd-Mercy College earned 91 points for fourth place. Immaculata University (72), Baptist Bible College (71), Neumann University (58), Philadelphia Biblical University (39), College of Notre Dame (30), Keystone College (23), and Cedar Crest (20) rounded out the voting.
The 2010 CSAC Championships begins with quarterfinal action on Monday November 1st. The CSAC Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday November 6th at the highest remaining seed.
