Aston, Pa., - The 2009 CSAC champion Gwynedd-Mercy College and runner up Marywood University each received a total of 115 points for a first place tie in the women's cross coaches' pre-season poll. The Griffins received six (6) first place votes while the Pacers received five (5). Gwynedd-Mercy edged out Marywood last year in a very close race held at Immaculata University as part of the 2009 Fall Championship Festival.
"We are honored to be picked as a preseason favorite, but in reality know defending our conference title will be very difficult," said Gwynedd-Mercy coach Mike Dager. "Marywood is a very solid team and while we beat them at CSACs last fall it was the only time we beat them all year."
"We are honored to be chosen as one of the CSAC preseason favorites in women's cross country" Marywood head coach Kevin Borelli said. "We also realize that with a very young team coupled with the loss of some important seniors we have a lot of proving to do against an increasingly challenging league."
Cabrini College received 88 points for a third place finish while Cedar Crest College received 78 for fourth. Keystone College (65), Baptist Bible College (63), Neumann University (56), Philadelphia Biblical University (48), Immaculata University (34), Centenary College (33) and Rosemont College (31) rounded out the voting.
The remaining programs will look to challenge the pre-season favorites on October 30, 2010 at the CSAC championships hosted by Gwynedd-Mercy College.
