Neumann University's Zach Sell and Cedar Crest College's Elizabeth Sunderhaus Named 2011 CSAC Scholar Athletes of the Year

Aston., PA - Zach Sell of Neumann University was named the male Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Scholar Athlete of the Year, while Elizabeth Sunderhaus of Cedar Crest College picked up the female CSAC Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.

Sell, a senior defender from Baltimore, earned a 3.88 GPA while majoring in Athletic Training at Neumann University. On the field Sell finished the season with 28 points (8 goals, 12 assists) helping the Knights to the program's first conference title in men's soccer.  Sell finished his career at Neumann with two records one with 67 points the other with 21 assists.  In his collegiate career Sell collected numerous honors including CSAC 2009 & 2010 men's soccer player of the year, CSAC All-Academic Team member, 2-time Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team selection, and ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American 1st team in 2010.

Sunderhaus, will be returning to the Cedar Crest basketball team for her senior season as the 2011 Jostens Trophy winner.  The Jostens Trophy is awarded annually by a national selection committee comprised of college coaches, former athletes, college administrators and members of the media and honors men and women who epitomize the well-rounded Division III student-athlete.  Sunderhaus, a genetic engineering major with a concentration in forensic science, holds a 3.98 GPA, is a 3 time CSAC All-Academic Team member and an ESPN First Team Academic All-American selection.  Sunderhaus led the nation in 2010-11 in rebounds per game with 15.6 and finished in the top twenty in DIII in scoring. 

The CSAC Scholar Athlete Award recognizes one male and one female student-athlete for their academic, athletic and community service achievements.  Each institution may nominate one male and one female for inclusion on the ballot produced by the conference office.  The ballot is voted on by each Athletics and Sports Information Director, for a total of two votes per institution. 

In order to eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a junior or senior with at least one year in residence prior to his/her nomination; have demonstrated athletic success, earned a varsity letter, and been a key contribution to the team; have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20; and  compete in a NCAA sanctioned sport.
