CSAC announces 2012 women's tennis awards
ASTON, Pa.: The Colonial States Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 women's tennis end of the year awards, as voted upon by the league's 11 head coaches. These awards include Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year, First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention All-CSAC, and the All-Sportsmanship Team.
For the third straight year, Gwynedd-Mercy College's
Rachel Fein (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) has been selected as the CSAC Player of the Year. Fein, a junior, went a perfect 16-0 in singles play (10-0 in conference), winning 15 of the matches by straight sets, and seven by a 6-0, 6-0 score. With the 10 conference victories, Fein improved her career CSAC record to 30-0 at #1 singles. She also teamed with Gabby Muller to go 10-0 at the #1 doubles position for the Griffins, who enter the CSAC championships as the top seed.
Marywood University's
Emily Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) was voted the 2012 CSAC Rookie of the Year. Splitting time between the #4 and #5 singles positions, the freshman went 9-2 overall, and a perfect 9-0 in conference play. She also saw time at all three doubles positions, going 6-3.
Gwynedd-Mercy College's
Jim Holt was voted CSAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. Holt led the Griffins to their fifth straight undefeated conference season, and with their 10-0 record, Gwynedd-Mercy ended the regular season with 50 consecutive CSAC wins stretching back to the 2008 campaign.
