CSAC squads suffer NCAA defeats
Friday was a tough day for three Colonial States Athletic Conference squads in the NCAA National Tournament, as the Gwynedd-Mercy women and Marywood men were downed in tennis action, while the Centenary softball team suffered a tough one-run defeat.
In Willamstown, MA, the Griffin women saw their season end with a 17-2 record after falling 5-1 to Nichols State. The Griffins saw their lone victory of the day come at number three singles, as Gabby Muller and Kellie Booth were victorious by an 8-5 count. In Amherst, MA, the Pacers were victims of the first NCAA postseason victory in Nichols College history, with the BIson winning 5-0. In Union, NJ, the Cyclones, fresh off of their first ever NCAA victory on Thursday over Movavian, were on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision in a pitcher's duel with Rowan University.. Centenary jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first, when Caitlyn Veverka, who led off the game with a single, scored on a wild pitch. Rowan came back to tie the game in the third, before plating the game-winner in the fifth. Centenary will now face Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon in an elimination game.
