CSAC Announces 2017 Women's Soccer End of Year Awards
ASTON, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) has released its 2017 end of the season women’s soccer awards. These awards include Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-CSAC and the CSAC All-Sportsmanship team. These awards were determined by a vote of the conference’s 12 head coaches.
Marywood University sophomore midfielder
Renae Moken (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) was named as the 2017 CSAC Player of the Year. Moken becomes the fifth player in Marywood history to be named the Player of the Year in women’s soccer (Rebecca Grubb – 2002, Andrea Barker – 2008, Lisa Hangelman – 2009, Paige Madary – 2010). She was second in the conference in points with 42 and led the CSAC in assists with 14. She scored 14 goals, which was tied for fifth-best in the CSAC. She had a season-high three goals against Rosemont College back October 4, while getting three assists in that match as well as three against Cedar Crest College back on September 20.
Centenary University senior defender
Emily Pizzuto (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) was voted the 2017 CSAC Defensive Player of the Year. A four-time All-CSAC selection, Pizzuto was a first-team selection for the second straight year. She was last year’s CSAC Player of the Year. Starting in all 16 matches this season, she led a defensive unit that posted a 1.50 GAA on the season. The Cyclones posted five shutouts this season. Individually, she had six goals and three assists on the year, with two goals coming in a win over Cabrini University back on October 14.
Marywood University freshman defender
Molly Sobolewski (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) was named as the 2017 CSAC Rookie of the Year. In her freshman campaign, she was named first-team All-CSAC. She led a defensive unit that pitched seven shutouts, all in CSAC matches. She played in all 16 matches, starting all 16 with two goals and one assist. She is the third player from Marywood to be named the CSAC Rookie of the Year (Lindsay Pappas – 1999, Olivia Habicht – 2009)
Finally, Marywood University head coach
Andrew Smith was named as the 2017 CSAC Coach of the Year. This marks the sixth time in his career Smith has been named Coach of the Year in the CSAC (2005, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016). In his 18th season, Smith led the Pacers to the top seed in the CSAC playoffs and will host the lowest remaining seed on Wednesday night. In his 18 years, he has amassed an overall record of 176-130-6 and leads all CSAC/PAC women’s soccer coaches in career victories and CSAC victories.
