CSAC to Add Men's Volleyball to Sport Sponsorship in 2019-20

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference Board of Directors has approved the addition of men’s volleyball as the conference’s 18th sport. The CSAC will sponsor men’s volleyball starting in the 2019-20 academic year, with play starting during the Winter of 2020.

"CSAC is very excited to add men’s volleyball as our newest conference sport," said Dr. Marylou Yam, President at Notre Dame of Maryland University and Chair of the CSAC Board of Directors. “The popularity of the sport and the vibrant participation and success of women’s volleyball in the conference are both strong indicators this addition is a positive move."

Two CSAC institutions currently sponsor men’s volleyball: Cairn University and Wilson College. Rosemont College will offer the sport in the 2019-20, while a fourth sponsoring institution, College of Saint Elizabeth, will join the conference as a core member on July 1, 2019. Cairn is currently a member of the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC), while Saint Elizabeth and Wilson are currently members of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

The four institutions will play a double round-robin schedule, with a tri-match championship scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020 hosted by the highest seed.

“The addition of men’s volleyball to the conference’s sport sponsorship offerings satisfies one of the primary goals outlined in the CSAC Strategic Plan, which focuses on providing the very best experience for our student-athletes,” said CSAC Commissioner Adrienne Mullikin. “Our member institutions have identified this sport as one that will provide a competitive championship experience. I am looking forward to the inaugural season of CSAC men’s volleyball in 2019-20.”

Men’s volleyball is the first new sport added to the CSAC’s sport sponsorship since men’s and women’s outdoor track and field were added during the 2015-16 academic year.
